In a previous post, you learned a few tips on how to become a better writer. However, in order to do so, you need to be able to spell words correctly. This will help you communicate your ideas better in written form. Still, if you require an extra push to improve your spelling skills, put the tips mentioned in this post to good use!

How to Improve Your Spelling Skills

Read and Write Regularly

First and foremost, you should read and write regularly. Doing this as much as possible (even on a daily basis), will help you practice your spelling skills and will allow you to get better at them.

Use the Necessary Tools

If you want to become a better speller, there are some tools you can use to help you through it. For example, having a dictionary by your side can ensure that you’ll be able to look up the spelling and meaning of new words, thus expanding your vocabulary.

Employ Mnemonic Devices

Sometimes, you may have trouble spelling because you can’t seem to remember the rules you should follow. If that’s the case, employ mnemonic devices (like making up rhymes or songs), to retain those spelling rules.

Create a Log

It’s very probable that you struggle spelling some words more than others. To help you out with this, you can create a spelling log in which you note and practice those specially difficult words.

Practice as Much as Possible

Lastly, you should keep in mind the saying “practice makes perfect”. If you want to improve, search for worksheets online, utilize learning apps, or look for some other ways in which you can practice your spelling.
