As you know, studying effectively can greatly improve your grade on a test. However, if you want to get a good score on your tests (especially now that finals are here), you should also have a solid test taking strategy. If you’d like some advice on how you can complete your tests efficiently, you can continue reading this post.

How to Take Tests Effectively

Identify Yourself

For starters, be sure to write your name down on the test as soon as you get it. This simple tip can help prevent your test (and grade) from becoming lost or misplaced, so keep it in mind.

Read Thoroughly

Before you start answering your test, read every instruction, question, possible answer, and more, thoroughly. Make sure that you understand what’s being asked of you. If you have a question, you can use this time to ask your teacher to clarify.

Answer Properly

How you answer your test is almost as important as what you answer. For example, incomplete, senseless sentences written with bad penmanship can only harm your grade, so make an effort.

Start Easy

If you’re having a bit of trouble knowing where to begin, start with the easiest questions. This will get them out of the way so you can focus on the more complicated ones. Make sure to mark the ones you’re skipping so you can come back to them later on.

Avoid Cheating

Tests can be nerve-wrecking which may make you feel unprepared. However, realize that cheating isn’t the answer! Doing so can hurt your learning experience, and may even have far worse consequences than a few wrong answers if you’re caught.

Review Carefully

Lastly, once you’re finished, review your test thoroughly. Reread the questions, your answers, and check to see if there’s anything you can improve. Likewise, make sure that you’ve answered every question (even the ones on the back of the sheet) before turning it in.
